The George Gregson Scholarship in Chemistry

The scholarship is a gift of George Gregson, who set up the endowment to honor his professors in chemistry, physics and metallurgy while at the University.

George Gregson was born in 1904 in Cochise County Arizona Territory. He attended grade school in Bisbee and following graduation from Bisbee High School he was admitted to The University of Arizona in September 1920. He majored in Chemistry and graduated with a Bachelor of Science “with distinction” in May 1924. He continued on to Graduate College at The University of Arizona where he majored in metallurgy. He was awarded the Master of Science degree in 1926. Many years later he obtained an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1971 and the Alumni Service Award in 1976.

After completing his studies, George Gregson moved to California where he was very successful in real estate development.

The George Gregson scholarship is given to exceptional new incoming graduate students who have an outstanding academic record.
