Alpha Chi Sigma is the nation's only professional fraternity of the chemical sciences. It was founded at the University of Wisconsin in December 11, 1902.

Beta Tau chapter at the University of Arizona, located in Tucson, was founded on April 29, 1967. Carl S. "Speed" Marvel (Zeta '1918) was among the chapter's charter members.

First advisor was Jack Marvel and shortly thereafter Robert Bates (Zeta '1960) became chapter advisor until 2000. Eugene Mash (Beta Tau '1985) was the third advisor (2000~2005). Neel Ghosh (Beta Tau'2004) became the fourth advisor until Craig Aspinwall (Beta Tau '2005) became the present advisor in 2007.

The chapter is based at the UA's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

The Objects of Alpha Chi Sigma:

  • To aid its members by every honorable means in the attainment of their ambitions as chemists throughout their mortal lives.
