Research Interests

    Research Summary

    Pharmaceutically Relevant Natural Products

Research in our group is focused on the development of new technologies to engineer pharmaceutically relevant natural products and their derivatives for drug discovery and development. Research is performed at the chemistry-biology interface and involves a variety of sophisticated approaches that include heterologous biosynthesis, mutasynthesis, chemoenzymatic synthesis with biosynthesis enzymes, in vitro and in vivo biochemical analysis, and directed and random approaches toward enzyme engineering. Natural product biosynthetic enzyme classes presently under evaluation in the Moore laboratory include iterative polyketide synthases belonging to the type II (enterocin and actinorhodin) and type III (marinone and vancomycin) families, non-ribosomal peptide synthetases (theopalauamide, microcystin, and salinosporamide), and those involved in terpene biochemistry (marinone).
