Professor Rathje graduated from Harvard with his Ph.D. in 1971.   Prof. Rathje enjoys a  joint appointment with the Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology.  His area of interest include archaeology, early civilizations, modern material culture studies, Mesoamerica.

Prof. Rathje interests have led him to his involvement with The Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology (BARA) and The Garbage Project.

Prof. Rathje's presentation at the Marvel Banquet will be a lively, informative discussion of The Garbage Project and his fascinating endeavors to understand the relationship between mental, behavioral, and material realities that constitute human consumption and disposal.
