Craig Aspinwall and Mark Agasid Participants in the ACS Global Research Experiences, Exchanges, and Training (GREET) Program

July, 2011

Prof. Craig Aspinwall and Mr. Mark Agasid from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry were recently chosen as participants in the inaugural ACS Global Research Experiences, Exchanges and Training (GREET) Program. The GREET program was established "to provide intensive, high impact international research experience and collaboration opportunities" in recognition of the International Year of Chemistry.

Five GREET teams were chosen from US institutions. The Arizona team is working at Institut de Biologie Structurale (IBS) in Grenoble, France with collaborators Dr. Michel Vivaudou and Dr. Christophe Moreau, world leaders in the design and development of ion channel-coupled receptor (ICCR) biosensors with the goal of incorporating ICCRs into stabilized lipid bilayer membranes for the development of novel chemical and biochemical sensors and diagnostic devices. The results will be presented at the Spring 2012 ACS meeting in San Diego, CA.
