We have some new services and fees available, including Unix Administration of dedicated research group computers and $50 CGF accounts. We have defined 4 types of Unix machines in the department and structured the CGF user fees and Unix Administration fees accordingly.

Computer Type Definitions

CGF Supported Computer Types:

    1. CGF-located, shared computer
      1. departmental computer system for general shared use by all CGF Users
      2. CGF pays parts and phone support service contract costs
      3. Computer is coverd by the CGF backup policy
      4. Software and Operating System Updates are funded at least partially by the CGF
        5.
    2. CGF-located, non-shared computer
      1. departmental computer system dedicated for use by specific group
      2. group pays parts and phone support service contract and repair costs
        3.
    3. Non-CGF-located, shared computer with CGF Unix System Administration
      1. group computer system, operated by CGF, with priority use by specific users, and general use by all CGF users
      2. group pays parts and phone support service contract and repair costs
      3. group pays 75% of Fiscal Year Unix System Administration fee
        4.
    4. Non-CGF-located, non-shared computer with CGF Unix System Administration
      1. group computer system, operated by CGF, dedicated for use by specific group
      2. group pays parts and phone support service contract and repair costs
      3. group pays fiscal Year Unix System Administration fee

CGF Services:

    1. CGF Unix System Administration
      1. The following are included in Unix System Administration Service:

        1. 80 hours or less per year of System Administration
        2. User, Group, File System, Operating System maintenance
        3. Software Installation (high priority)
        4. Batch Queue setup (time available basis)
        5. New Hardware installation (time available basis)
        6. Changes to user database (high priority)
        7. System Backup for disaster recovery (may require group member assistance to load tapes locally)
        8. Unix System Security monitoring and maintenance
        9. Installation of "Server" applications (web server, email server, database server, etc), however administration of servers not included.
        10. Usernames/Passwords incorporated into departmental NIS cluster.
        11. Limited user access to root level controls where necessary

        1. Hardware and/or Software maintenance costs
        2. User data backup and recovery (for type c and d systems where a backup system was not purchased with the computer; the CGF will assist groups in establishing user data backup and recovery procedure)

CGF Fees:

    1. CGF User Account Fees:
      1. $540: Fiscal Year users of computers type a, b, and c above pay an annual fee of $540 for access to CGF resources.
        1. Pro-rated Fiscal Year accounts will be available for new group members for the first 9 months of the fiscal year.
      2. $65 One Month use of type a and c computers - $65 - generic accounts will be available by the calendar month, with fixed username, fixed passwords, and a 50MB disk quota.

    2. CGF Unix System Administration Fee:
      1. $720: The first Fiscal Year of service is $720 per computer, this includes initial system setup and configuration.
      2. $540: Subsequent Fiscal Years are $540 per computer.
