Graduation & Beyond
Filing for Degree Candidacy
All students planning to graduate must file for degree candidacy and initiate the formal degree check process prior to receiving their diploma. Chemistry majors must make an appointment to see Robin Rarick rrarick@email.arizona.edu 520.626.7908 to begin this process.
Deadlines
In order to have your name printed in the UA commencement booklet, you must file for candidacy by the end of March if you plan to graduate in May or August, or by the end of October if you plan to graduate in December. It is strongly recommended that you file for candidacy and have your degree check done the semester prior to your expected graduation, after you have finalized your course enrollment for that term. This way, if there are any problems with meeting graduation requirements, they can be caught early.
Degree Check Process
To file for degree candidacy:
- Fill out the online College of Science Exit Survey http://www.mcb.arizona.edu/cosExit/
- Contact Robin Rarick who will begin your paperwork; make an appointment to come in to sign the forms.
- Fill out the degree candidacy form; there is a $35 charge for filing which is charged to your bursar's account. Do not bring money when you file.
- You'll receive an information sheet outlining specific deadlines, diploma posting information, and contact information for Graduation Services (who will conduct the final audit of your degree after the term ends).
- Have all major and general education requirements reviewed by your chemistry advisor; any remaining requirements will be noted on a degree adjustment sheet.
- Take the adjustment sheet to each of your additional major/minor advisor(s) to have your progress toward those requirements approved (if applicable).
- Take the adjustment sheet to the Honors College for approval if you are graduating with Honors.
- Bring the adjustment sheet back to Robin Rarick for the final College approval, a photocopy, and to file the papers with Graduation Services.
Exit Interviews
The Department of Chemistry cares very much about the experience of its students, and student feedback during exit interviews is often used to initiate improvements within the program. Each fall and spring term, graduating seniors are invited to attend an exit luncheon with faculty and staff to celebrate their accomplishments and discuss ways the program can be improved. Day/Time/Location of this event is TBA each term.
If you are unable to attend the exit interview luncheon, you still can provide valuable feedback about the program. Please complete the exit survey, which can be downloaded here.
Commencement
Commencement ceremonies are held each May and December at both the University and College level. Information can be found by following the links above-right.
